*Gia Marie Love, a community activist and member of the underground Ballroom and Kiki scene, and Sundance Institute Associate Programmer Lauren Cioffi, will be present for a post-film Q&A.

In the years following Paris Is Burning, Jennie Livingston’s landmark documentary about New York City’s subterranean trans* community, its parties known as balls, and the voguing that they invented, a rich subculture of the ballroom scene emerged known as Kiki. Through fierce voguing battles and collective competitions, LGBT youth of color are leading social movements of empowerment and gaining real political clout. Swedish filmmaker Sarah Jordenö follows members of the community over four years as they fight for their recognition in today’s political landscape one death drop at a time.
