Explore the life and campaigns of Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, a formerly incarcerated Black transgender elder and activist who has been fighting for the rights of trans women of color for over 40 years.

Winner: Best Documentary—2016 Qfest New Jersey, Best Documentary—2016 Wicked Queer BostonMAJOR! explores the life and campaigns of Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, a formerly incarcerated black trans* elder and activist who has been fighting for the rights of trans* women of color for more than 40 years. Miss Major is a veteran of the Stonewall rebellion, survivor of Attica Correctional Facility, a former sex worker, a community leader, and human rights activist. In her community, she is known simply as Mama.

The film is much more than a biographical documentary. It launches an investigation into the industrial prison complex and the civil rights battle for incarcerated trans* women. It takes a historical look into 40-plus years of LGBT experiences. This is the history of a community’s struggle and resilience. It is the personalized vision of a powerful, charismatic force that is Miss Major.

“I am still fucking here” becomes a mantra echoed throughout this film. The list of lives touched by Miss Major grows every day… and so do the strength and pride of the community she has spent her life fighting for.

Winner: Best Documentary—2016 Qfest New Jersey, Best Documentary—2016 Wicked Queer Boston
