Directed by Phillipe Flardeau
105 min. | 2008 | Canada
Like Philippe Falardeau’s recent hit Monsieur Lazhar, his earlier, tragic-comic 2008 film features exceptional, guileless and pretenseless performances by young and/or amateur performers. Here, it’s Antoine L’Ecuyer, who plays Leon Dore, a 10-year-old whose destructive acts and pathological lying may remind some of the bad behaviors by comic strip character Dennis the Menace. However, Leon’s actions have serious repercussions for him and others. Leon’s squabbling parents – his mother-enabler, Madeleine (Suzanne Clement) and his more grounded, exasperated father, Philippe (Daniel Briere) – eventually split up.
