Starring renowned artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, Downtown 81 vividly captures downtown New York City’s art and music scene as it was in the early 1980s. This urban fairytale follows a day in the life of a young artist who is evicted from his apartment and attempts to raise money by selling his artwork, encountering several colorful characters along the way. The film not only presents a portrait of one of the twentieth century’s art icons, but also depicts the emergence of new wave music, art, and culture.
