DOWNWINDERS — Work-in-progress screening

Directed by Tim Skousen and Tyler Bastian
90 min | 2015 | USA | Not Rated

*Post-film discussion with Directors Tim Skousen and Tyler Bastian, and Downwinders advocate J Truman, moderated by KUED’s Mary Dickson.

Downwinders chronicles the plight of the people living in the American southwest that were affected by nuclear bomb testing in Southern Nevada from 1951 through the 1990s. Due to the high radiation levels resulting from the tests, many people were diagnosed with varying cancers. Despite empirical evidence showing a direct connection between the testing and cancer, the Cold War veterans affected have received little help from the government that treated them as guinea pigs.
