Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood
Rated PG-13 | 114 min. | USA | 2008

Set amid the hotbed of racial tensions in the 1960s South, writer-director Gina Prince-Bythewood’s touching drama is based on Sue Monk Kidd’s best-selling novel of the same name. Haunted by her mother’s death, 14-year-old Lily Owens (Dakota Fanning) escapes her lonely life and troubled relationship with her father as she flees with Rosaleen Daise (Jennifer Hudson), her caregiver and only friend, to a South Carolina town that holds the secret to her mother’s past. Taken in by the intelligent and independent Boatwright sisters, Lily finds solace in their mesmerizing world of beekeeping.
