**Utah Opera Artistic Director Christopher McBeth will be in attendance for a post film Q&A about the film and the upcoming Utah Opera production of Turandot
In 1997, Oscar Winning documentary filmmaker Allan Miller embarked on a film project with renowned conductor Zubin Mehta and celebrated Chinese film director Zhang Yimou as they joined forces in a production of Puccini’s opera Turandot in Florence. Before the year was out, an extraordinary opportunity arose: to stage Turandot in its original setting in the Forbidden City in Beijing. This behind-the-scenes documentary is a fascinating chronicle of an unprecedented cross-cultural collaboration, and combines the pageantry of the opera with a spectacular cinematic portrait of its struggles and triumphs.
Presented in partnership with the Utah Symphony/Utah Opera as part of the Silk & Spices Festival
