Join the Utah Film Center & KUER for a special, live broadcast of RadioWest with host Doug Fabrizio and guest Academy Award-nominated director Lucy Walker.

Award-winning director Lucy Walker is best known for directing four feature-length documentary films: Devil’s Playground (2002), Blindsight (2006), Waste Land (2010) and Countdown to Zero (2010). Her most recent film The Tsunami and The Cherry Blossom (2011) premiered at the 2011 Toronto Film Festival, won the Short Film Jury Award: Non-fiction at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival and was nominated for the 2012 Academy Award for Best Documentary Short. She was also nominated in 2011 for Best Documentary Feature for Waste Land , which won over 30 other wards including Audience Awards at the Sundance Film Festival and Berlin Film Festival, and the International Documentary Association’s Best Documentary Award.

Following the interview, is a special screening The Tsunami and the Cherry Blossom, a stunning visual poem about the ephemeral nature of life and the healing power of Japan’s most beloved flower as survivors in the areas hardest hit by Japan’s recent tsunami find the courage to revive and rebuild as cherry blossom season begins. The screening will be followed by a Q+A with Ms. Walker.
